In This North

(A poem about fall)

“Last Hurrah” a painting by Nancy J. McLaughlin

The sun moves so far across the sky
Just in June it sank beyond my window
Now it stares me in the face
Headed like birds to a better place.

Growing clouds settle against the cooling hills,
Tomorrow will the peaks be dusted white?
Darkness brings the wind
Howling through the spaces it finds
Carrying me from day to night.

I love both reading and writing poems, as they are capable of transporting us with just a few words. I also tell my stories with paint on canvas.
