Shore Walk

a poem where sea meets land.

abstract expressionist painting of a colorful turbulent sea image
Inland Sea a painting by Nancy J. McLaughlin

No matter how many times I walk the sea
my steps erased by water and sand
each familiar sight and sound
leads to a being at my feet.
Life courses through another’s veins
or lies spent in the sun
wrapped in dried eel grass
breathing in another realm
where sands sift slowly
into caverns deep in the earth.

I love both reading and writing poems, as they are capable of transporting us with just a few words. I also tell my stories with paint on canvas.
